We implemented Microsoft Purview for resort team and created a retention labels (policy).


there are two locations where the retention labels can be used:


1. Outlook - for emails

2. Sharepoint site / Onedrive.


Please assign labels accordingly to specific type of documents or emails.

You can assign labels to Outlook Folders or Sharepoint Folders (libraries) - all items inside will inherit the label of the folder.


Outlook - how to assign label (policy) to Outlook Folder


For assigning label (policy) please select folder and in the top bar select "Assign Policy" and choose "Set Policy"


Select proper policy:


Outlook - how to assign label (policy) to email

right click on email and select "Assign Policy". If you can't find the label (policy) you are looking for select "More Retention Policies..."


Sharepoint - Onedrive

You can assign label to Folder (library) or specific document. Once selected Folder or Document look at properties and click "choose a label"





and select a label you require




If label has been applied by mistake and you have problem to remove or change the label please create a ticket in helpdesk with specific explanation:
  • Purview email/sharepoint
  • path to file
  • what type of label
